Jacqueline de Ribes Exhibit, The Costume Institute, Metropolitan Museum of Art
It’s been referred to as The Oscars of the East Coast, but to us, it’s simply the Met Gala! Once a year, designers, artists, editors, models and celebrities descend upon the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s grand ruby-red carpet-covered steps in gorgeous, show-stopping looks that have one unmistakable element in common: the year’s iconic theme.
This year’s theme was Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology. It was not surprising to see countless guests shining, literally shining, on the Red Carpet. Claire Danes was a standout in a LED dress designed by Zac Posen that quite literally lit up the evening with its delicate organza and fiber optics combination. What better occasion to use this shining inspiration than one of your many pre wedding parties and celebrations?
Here are a few ideas for incorporating elegant shine into your pre wedding attire.
LIQUID SILK
When choosing a silk dress with a surface sheen, we prefer a deceptively simple silhouette with clean design lines that allow the gorgeous sheen of the silk to be the center of attention. A modern A Line dress in a Pearl White or Pale Blush is an effortlessly elegant choice for your Engagement Party.
SUBTLE SEQUINS
Countless celebrities donned attire featuring rivets and metallic studs. For a softer alternative that still delivers the dimensional impact, consider a sequin or metallic fabric. Again, we suggest clean design lines in order to keep your look modern and sophisticated. To view our Sydney Sequin and Blush Pink Dress select this lovely link, it's one of our favorite ideas for infusing shine into your wedding. The elegant iridescent sequins gracing the sweetheart bodice perfectly pair with the discreet shine of the Blush Silk Gazar skirt to create a picture perfect look for your first dance.
MAXIMUM IMPACT WITH SLEEK SOPHISTICATION
We loved seeing dress after dress with 3D detailing, whether embellished with rivets, jewels, stones or flowers, each was unique and stylish. A favorite white dress in our current collection pairs a luxe silk shift dress with a pearl and crystal knot embellishment. Select this lovely link to view our Kara White Dress, a beautiful choice for a Rehearsal Dinner outfit or an After Party dress. Again, the clean design lines highlight the subtle shine of the silk while the pearl and crystal knot embellishment showcases a chic and modern interpretation of the 3D trend.

White can be symbolic of new beginnings, purity, and the start of a new life together in many cultures. It's also associated with traditional wedding ceremonies in Christianity. The tradition of wearing white wedding gowns has both historical and cultural roots. Queen Victoria is often credited with popularizing the white wedding dress in the 19th century when she married Prince Albert in a white gown. Wondering how to find your perfect fit in wedding gowns? Typically wedding dress sizes can be different from regular clothing sizes. Wedding dress sizing often follows its own set of sizing charts, and may differ from one bridal designer or brand to another. Wedding dress sizes often run smaller than regular clothing sizes, meaning that a bride may need to choose a wedding dress size that is larger than her usual size.
